The #sundaystills photo challenge this week is “Feed the birds”. This is my contribution!

A long time ago, my wife and I were looking at a waterfall in a warm, exotic country. The falls were magnificent, yet she turned to me and asked “Is this any more beautiful than the waterfall we hike to at home?”
It’s still a good question. Yes, going to a foreign land and witnessing its grandeur adds to the power of the view. Yet I think it’s equally important to appreciate the beauty in our own communities, our own yards. Pay the money to go see all the beautiful sights of faraway places, but don’t neglect to appreciate the flowers that grow in our own small gardens.
I wanted to explore a new area that I thought had a pretty extensive trail system. It didn’t, but I couldn’t be disappointed. It lead me next to a wonderful property full of whimsical art. I felt welcome at Simsfairy Farms!

I also plan this to be the cover of my next book Self of Steam.

I love how the sky and the water meet in the distance in similar shapes. The picture makes the brackish water beautiful because it meets the sky.

First tracks in a snowstorm!
Two of my favorites: ruins and waterfalls. I’ve always loved ruins, whether they are colonial like this or ancient and magnificent like in Italy. There is an echo of the past, evidence of labor and construction, and the ghostlike essence of those who once lived and worked in a place that is now abandoned.
